Savouring Dim Sum Artistry

By incorporating volunteer & elderly empowerment, intergenerational connection, artistic expression, and community engagement, Savoring Dim Sum Artistry aims to create a meaningful and lasting impact for both the community volunteers and the elderly artisans. We strive to build community resilience and cohesion through this 6-month engagement program. The project recruited volunteers from CCG Hearts Loyalty Program and Youth organizations from the Tsuen Wan and Kwai Tsing Districts

Volunteer Empowerment and Training:

The project aims to combine volunteer training and art workshops byadopting a "train the trainer" concept. Through these activities, volunteers will be equipped with the basic skills and knowledge to organize and conduct the Ceramic Dim Sum Art Reminiscence Program. This will enable them to establish meaningful connections with elderly participants, fostering intergenerational engagement and enhancing their overall well-being. The program also invited guest speakers including Art Therapists and Occupational Therapists, who provided a comprehensive introduction and share insights with the volunteers regarding the therapeutic methods of both Art Therapy and Reminiscence Therapy.

Dim Sum Art Reminiscence Program:

The Program consisted of a series of Ceramic Dim Sum Art Reminiscence workshops where volunteers and participating elders will take part in creating ceramic dim sum artwork. The creation process serves as a tool for reminiscence and storytelling with the elderly. This program aims to evoke memories and create a sense of nostalgia, promoting mental stimulation and social interaction among the elderly participants. By engaging elders with dementia through art, we hope to empower elders with a sense of autonomy and raise awareness on dementia among the volunteers and the broader community.

Sensory Restaurant on Wheels™:

Upon the completion of the ceramic dim sum artworks, the project organized a series of sensory-led dim sum dining events ”Sensory Restaurant on Wheels™” to celebrate the achievements of our elders and community volunteers. “Sensory Restaurant on WheelsTM” offered a multi-sensory dining experience that combines the artistry of traditional dim sum in different textures, performance, together with immersive ambiance, music, and storytelling, and also provided softmeal dim sum for those with swallowing difficulties.

Achievements Exhibition:

To extend the awareness and impact of the project, a long-term development plan includes organizing an Achievements Exhibition outside of Tsuen Wan District. This exhibition will showcase the ceramic dim sum artwork created by the volunteers and highlight the journey of intergenerational connection and artistic expression. The exhibition will serve as a platform to engage a wider audience, promote community involvement, and inspire further support for similar initiatives.
